Dance lessons for the Big Day!

Hi Friends!

Excited to share our recent interview with our friends Rima and Armen Way from Accent Dance studio. They are true professionals in the art of dance and choreography. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend some time getting to know a little bit more about how they work with couples prepping dance routines for the special day.

L: “Are dance lessons necessary for a bride and groom?”

R: Dancing is a big part of the wedding day; therefore, dance classes are very important for any wedding couple. Couples take dance lessons towards either their first dance or towards general social dancing skills. In either case, future bride and grooms end up with tons of confidence on the dance floor.

L: How long does it take for a bride & groom to perfect a dance routine for their first dance?

R: The time it takes for a couple to learn a first dance varies from couple to couple as it depends on several factors. Do they have any dance experience? What dance style would they want to learn as some dance styles are more difficult than others? For example, Viennese Waltz is a popular style for the first dance but can be difficult due to its fast rhythm. Also, does the couple want to learn a choreography, which is a set routine, or learn how to free-style during the 1st dance? Generally, it can take anywhere from 6 to 15 lessons. To ensure you have enough time to practice, It’s recommended to start taking dance classes 4 to 6 months before the big day. (Once a week) The more time and practice you put into it the more comfortable and confident you will feel on the dance floor.

L: “How do you prepare the bride & groom for their dance routine?”

R: We offer our wedding couples an initial lesson in order to do an assessment of their abilities and find out what they are looking for in a first dance. During their first lesson we are able to determine exactly how many lessons the couple will need to accomplish their goals.  If a couple has already picked out a song for the first dance, then we match the dance style that goes with their song’s rhythm, if not we introduce them to several different dance styles. For example; rumba, tango, waltz, to see which style best fits the couple. We then help the couple find an appropriate song to match their chosen dance style.  The choreography can be as simple or fancy as the couple wishes.

L: “Can you help with overall dance skill development?”

R: All dance styles are inter-related so couples can learn more dances styles in less time. Besides first dance, we teach how to socially dance to any song. Some other popular dance styles that couples like to learn are salsa, cha-cha, swing, Armenian and hip-hop. 80% of wedding couples have never taken dance classes but realize that the best time and reason to start is NOW and for the wedding. Once they take a class and see how easy it is to dance, they usually want to learn as many different styles as possible. We also choreograph father-daughter, mother-son dances along with bridal party dances and special entrances dances.

Thanks to Rima & Armen Way for giving us an insight to how they choreograph dance routines with couples for their big day!

A Couture Event…

Hi Friends,

It all started with a Vera Wang dress and the rest was history. This was an avant garde of an event and haut couture was the theme. Every piece was accentuating the next from the sweeping vistas of the Hummingbird Nest Ranch to the lush cymbidium orchids of each centerpiece.
